Beware of Phone Scammers Who Claim They Are From Kaukauna Utilities

Recently, Kaukauna Utilities was made aware of phone scams occurring in the KU territory.
Please be aware that Kaukauna Utilities' customers will never be asked to make an immediate payment over the phone to avoid disconnection. Those who receive such a call should hang up without providing any personal information and report the scam to us immediately.

Utility customers across the nation have received phone calls from scammers claiming to work for a local utility. The callers claim that the customer owes significant past-due charges to the utility and must make a payment in full over the phone – or their electric service will be shut off.

KU has procedures in place to notify customers of past-due charges. We mail letters to residents or business owners with the past-due balance and the steps they can take to avoid an interruption in electric service. We make every effort to work with our customers on payment arrangements – all they have to do is give us a call.

Scammers have been known to call restaurants and bars during busy times of day, for example, in hopes of catching a business owner off guard and tricking them into providing a credit card number over the phone.

In some parts of the country, utility customers have received emails that appear to be from the local utility and contain an “energy statement” with past-due charges. This is also a scam, and customers should not click on any links, open attachments or provide any personal information.

Kaukauna Utilities does not share customer phone numbers or email addresses. The utility continues to safeguard private customer information, including contact information and usage data.

Questions may be directed to the utility’s customer service staff at (920) 766-5721
