Residents of Miami were very happy to see the KU line truck roll through their neighborhood with hope of restored power close to follow. The crews asked one resident if they could get through a gate on his property. He said if they couldn’t get through he’d push the fence down so they could fix the problem.
They worked with FPL and were told KU was second as far as number of lines put back up. The crew from WI didn’t know FPL was keeping track. Safety was more of an issue since the crew was in unfamiliar territory. Good safety gear and safety procedures kept the KU linemen from serious harm.
Overall it was a good experience and the crew, who were good line techs before, came back better line techs. FPL asked the crew to stay longer.
