The adjustment has been requested in order to cover inflationary increases in operational and maintenance expenses, costs associated with expanding the Utility office and warehouse facility, costs associated with maintaining the reliability of the electric distribution system, and costs associated with upgrading and maintaining the hydro electric generating plants. Also included in the study is an additional revenue requirement to enhance the Energy Conservation Program. The last electric rate increase was approved in September 2006.
The requested increase in revenues is an overall $2,164,044 or 4.0% above the electric utility’s present revenues as detailed in Kaukauna Utilities’ electric rate application and cost of service study submitted to the PSCW on June 26, 2008. After review, PSCW staff proposes an increase in overall revenues of $1,918,678, or 3.5%. The actual increase to individual customers will vary with electricity usage, class of service and the ultimate rates authorized by the Commission. If the application is approved by the PSCW as filed, the average residential customer using 860 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per month will see a monthly increase of approximately $6.54, or 9.1%. The average commercial customer using 2101 kWh of electricity per month would see a monthly increase of approximately $15.13, or 8.3%. The monthly bill changes in other types of customers may vary from these averages.
