Energy Aware Days

Kaukauna Utilities is committed to keeping customers informed and helping them save money on their utility bills, especially during the summer when electricity costs are higher. With more customers using air conditioning in the summer, our energy consumption hits its peak. As a result, our costs to serve you are also higher during this season.

During the summer, we encourage customers to be energy aware. An Energy Aware Day is declared on extremely hot days when electricity demand spikes as people cool their homes and businesses. This increased demand raises costs for the utility, potentially leading to higher energy bills for customers. To help manage this, we encourage everyone to be mindful of their energy use, especially between 3-7 pm, when demand is highest. By reducing usage during these peak hours—without sacrificing comfort or turning off air conditioners—we can help keep the power system running smoothly and lower energy costs.

Summer offers a perfect opportunity to make some adjustments that can help you save:

  • Give your thermostat a nudge up or install a smart thermostat that will adjust automatically. Check out our Smart Thermostat rebate here.
  • Get a professional air conditioner tune-up. A well working air conditioner can save 5-15% on cooling costs. KU offers an AC tune-up rebate, details here.
  • Consider using ceiling fans instead of air conditioning
  • Turn off the heated dry cycle on your dishwasher
  • Replace your dehumidifier with a more efficient model
  • Track your energy usage and set alerts using MyAccount

Kaukauna Utilities is dedicated to keeping costs manageable for our community throughout the year.
